Vitaly T. Cheshchevik

PhD, Associate Professor, Dean of the Biotechnology Faculty at Polesie State University (Pinsk, Belarus)

V.T. Cheshchevik graduated from Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno in 2005 with a degree in Biology and a specialization in Biochemistry. In 2014, he defended his dissertation on "Respiratory Activity of Rat Liver Mitochondria in Diabetic and Toxic Injuries and Its Correction." He has conducted several studies in the field of food chemistry and biologically active natural compounds in collaboration with specialists from the Lodz University of Technology.

Scientific achievements include the demonstration of bioflavonoids effects on the expression of ABC transporters, the cytotoxicity of fisetin chelates, the role of mitochondrial calcium in hypochlorite-induced oxidative cell damage, the mechanisms of mitochondrial involvement in the pathogenesis of acute and chronic intoxication with carbon tetrachloride, acetaminophen, and diabetes mellitus, and the effects of mitochondrotropic drugs based on biologically active natural compounds in the correction of intoxication and diabetes mellitus.

Currently, his scientific interests include research in the fields of mitochondrial and translational medicine, platelet bioenergetics in pathological conditions (metabolic syndrome, carcinogenesis, diabetes mellitus, and cardiovascular diseases), mitochondrial-associated diseases and mitochondrial heteroplasmy, and biologically active compounds (flavonoids, essential oils, etc.).
